Featured Business Last May Osprey Marketing Director Gareth Martins joined fishing and recreation business leaders in Washington, DC for the release of a letter signed by over 1100 businesses calling for real recovery measures for Columbia and Snake River salmon. He and Dave Knutson with Chaco, Inc. met with the Colorado congressional delegation and other key elected leaders to request their help in protecting wild salmon and the jobs and local economies that depend on them and ask them to cosponsor the Salmon Planning Act.
Osprey also sponsored the 2005 Summit for Salmon benefit climb by generously providing top-of-the-line backpacks to participating climbers. With the help of 24 volunteer climbers, the Mount Rainier climb raised over $60,000 for Save Our Wild Salmon. Ever the glutton for punishment, Gareth Martins has offered to return to Washington, DC in 2006 to speak on behalf of restoring the Snake River and recovering wild salmon and steelhead. At the 2005 Summer Outdoor Retailers Trade Show Osprey hosted a memorable party on the show floor for Save Our Wild Salmon featuring smoked salmon, a special Wild Salmon Red Ale courtesy of Steamworks Brewery and celebrity climber Timmy O'Neill donning the ever-popular "Buster the Salmon" costume.
